Independence Lake: Like I mentioned, Amy & I went hiking yesterday to Independence Lake..and continued on another trail headed toward North Lake. The hike started out with ups and downs but nothing compared to the gruel of Dickerman and before too long Independence Lake was in sight. Whoo-hoo we finally made it to one destination of the many we have set. (ie: Failed attempt to Goat Lake because of bee/flys..failed attempt because of the gruel & time constraint on Dickerman and little did we know another incomplete would be North Lake.) So we admired the beauty of the lake, it was so crystal clear you could see to the bottom even in the middle of the lake. Truly majestic. After enjoying some nosing & poking we continued on with hopes of getting to North Lake before we needed to turn back for the day. It turned out to be much more challenging than one would think to find the trail head - we spent an HOUR searching the area, going on what we though were perhaps trails, rerouting old trails until we saw some white tags fluttering on a small shrub...and then another and another, obviously mapping the way of the next trail. When starting the second switchback we finally saw an official trail head labeling the path as North Lake. Thanks for the help Washington rangers, it was much appreciated. Not. Then it was up, up and up. We were hoping to reach a ridge we had heard about but time was ticking and stomachs were growling so we popped a squat for our sandwiches. There were lush blueberry bushes on our way up and we wanted to pick some on our way back which meant no view point, no North Lake, it was down, down, down. Now we're back to the easy part of the trail filling our empty water bottles with ripe blueberries when mayhem hits..its starts with a face plant by my dear Amy. There was some disconnect between her brain and feet and she forgot to lift her legs over the log sitting six inches off the ground. We laughed, REALLY HARD, obviously, especially since there were only some bruises and scrapes. Then, I thought the blueberries further down the hill looked 'plumper' so I took an incautious step which sent me on a hill slide. I was trying my best to keep my bottle upright as to not lose my precious blue balls, yet I was unsuccessful. We had another good laugh, but I still think Amy took the gold for falls on this trip. So another fun day with my sister; lots of laughing and joking, some hard work and heavy contemplation leaving us with no doubt that it is definitely about the journey, not the destination.
In other things, I am a proud Husky alumni after this past weekend's game against USC. Sean and I went over to our favorite newlywed's place, Jimmy & Mary, this weekend to watch the UW game in anticipation of a so-called 'upset'. The game was a stomach turner, definitely worth the watch! Even better, after the game we went to our favorite Indian restaurant in Seattle, Bengal Tiger. Ahh, what Seattle offers that Mount Vernon doesn't. But honestly, going back made us a little home sick for that beautiful city.
On Sunday we did car shopping, or better put, SUV shopping. I think Sean has finally narrowed it down to a Nissan Xterra or a Toyota 4Runner. We'll see, maybe there will be a new vehicle in store for us pretty soon?
