Summer?

Good lord, I can't believe we're already approaching the last week of July! It's officially been OVER a month since I last blogged and what has happened?

1. Road trip from Pensacola, FL to Mt. Vernon, WA
2. Inaugural Rock n' Roll Marathon in Seattle
3. Fourth of July on Boulder River Falls hike
4. Rafting and camping in Leavenworth
5. Moving out!
6. Wedding planning...still

I guess I've just been too busy, in fact the only craftiness I've done lately is a simple card for a co-worker wishing her well in her battle against breast cancer. Honestly, when I think about how much we've done since school got out I'm shocked it's still summer - on the other hand my heart starts racing when I realize how much time has already passed! Well how about a little synopsis of the previous events.

Road trip: We got off to a rocky start; flight delays and mishaps meant we ended up spending our first night of vaca in a Dallas hotel paid for courtesy of American Airlines...which ended up being our only compensation for their fiasco. The first layout is a tribute to that experience and our taking advantage of the king size bed by jumping on it like toddlers. :) But being quite a bit taller we both managed to hit our heads and slam our bodies a little to0 hard in an attempt to be caught mid air by camera. Se la vi! Once in Pensacola we readied the RV to the best of our ability for the long trip ahead...all the while enduring a heat index of 110. Yes that's right, 110, we were faced with failing AC in the RV and basically sat in our sweat until Tennessee when we finally gave in and spent some dough to charge the AC. We stopped to visit my grandparents in Murfreesboro, TN first for a day and then off to Memphis for a night where we ventured the sketchy streets by Elvis' mansion. Next stop was Midwest City, OK to see Sean's grandmother and some Oklahoman sites. After that we drove all day, everyday, to get as close to home as possible. When I say 'we drove' that means that Sean drove the scary RV while I sat next to him quietly enthralled in the Twilight series. I bought and read and bought and read until I finished each book before the road trip was over, it even inspired me to read Wuthering Heights. I haven't been this much of a bookworm since I was in elementary school and was able to choose my own books. :) Well that was pretty much our road trip. We have a few stories to bring home with us; AA torture, Nana's ham-less ham sandwich, a few lessons learned about a home on wheels and a new addiction - Sirius satellite radio.

Items two-four don't have layouts to accompany them yet so I'll be brief since I know I'll talk about them again. The half marathon was A LOT of fun, Amy and I even managed to run...especially if there were cameras around. :) We finished in just under 3 hours but had only planned on walking so we were both happy with that time. The fourth was also really great; Sean, Plop, ma, Amy, Marcus & I all went on a hike just outside Darrington. Can you believe that it was the first hike Marcus had ever been on? Wow. Everyone but mom came out unscathed, which is better than the last fourth. hehe And after our long trek we went back to ma's for some steak and salmon and finished off the evening with fireworks from Boom City. All in all a wonderful, long day. Lastly, rafting & camping - what an experience. This was the first time we drove the RV for fun (and probably the last for the summer) but it ended up being a wonderful way to camp. Showers at night to wash off the campfire smell, yet still being able to enjoy the roasting of marshmallows - who could ask for more? Rafting was a lot of fun, even more so because they let us take turns in a kayak on our own. Finding some courage I usually lack I decided to be the first one to take the plunge in the kayak...mind you I've never even sat in one of these before. Luckily, there were no big rapids on my route so that ended up being a good decision on my part. Amy & Sean took their turns bearing the rapids and finally convinced Marcus to hop on. The poor guy had no chance on the last rapid of the day, our guide was chuckling pretty much praying for him to tip over - which he did. He kept hold of the kayak & oar though and floated to us with little problems and after that even Andrew joined him to enjoy the peaceful ride to our destination.

Well that is the past month in a nutshell, aside from the constant driving to and fro between Seattle and Mt. Vernon. Hopefully now that we're getting settled I'll have some crafting to share soon. Until then, adios!
